Griffin Maritime Co.
Ltd
Marine Consulting & Management Services
Kevin Griffin founded Griffin Maritime in London in 1992 as a marine consultancy specialising in port representation in the cargo trades between Europe, Canada and the Great Lakes, and to work on projects in the fields of passenger and cruise shipping. Griffin is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and a member of The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, with twenty-five years executive experience in liner and bulk shipping, marine terminal operations, inland transport and project management. This has included positions in both Europe and North America, with the Clarke Group (including Dart Containerline and Halterm), Canadian Pacific Limited and Fednav Limited.
Griffin worked on ships of various kinds during his university years and later also lectured in marine transport management at McGill University in Montreal. Born in the UK and a dual British and Canadian national, he is a director and past chairman of the Leading Cruise Agents of the UK and has served on the agents advisory committee of the Passenger Shipping Association (Retail Agents), now Association of Cruise Experts, in London. He has also written for Seatrade, Canadian Shipping, Seaports, Freighter Travel Review, Marine News, Telescope and Cruise magazine, among others.
Griffin Maritime was European representative for the Port of Toledo, Ohio, for twelve years and has also done work for the Port of Detroit. Promoting centralized Midwest distribution by discharging cargoes for three ports at one, saving shipowners deviation and the cost of extra port calls, resulted in new cargoes. Griffin has also participated in a number of US and Canadian trade missions to Europe. He has experience of containers, forest products, vehicles, steel, lumber, zinc, aluminium, chemicals, iron and particle board, as well as project cargoes, heavy lifts, household goods and other cargoes and today provides general management services to the shipping industry.
Associate company The Cruise People Ltd is a wholesaler and retailer of sea travel, with emphasis on niche markets. For ten years it was UK agent for Marine Expeditions, operating in the Antarctic, Canadian Arctic, Amazon, South Pacific and Russian Far East, and it has since extended into representing other destination-oriented ships. A member of the Association of Cruise Experts (ACE), Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Leading Cruise Agents of the UK (LCA), The Cruise People is also general passenger agent for the Great Lakes service of PZM Polish Steamship Company of Szczecin, and passenger agents for CMA CGM Marseilles, Grimaldi Lines Naples, Hamburg-Süd Reiseagentur and Reederei F Laeisz Hamburg, Reederei NSB Bremen, Rickmers Reederei Hamburg, and Frachtschiff Touristik Kapitän Peter Zylmann Kappeln.
The Cruise People also acts as European representative of the Great Lakes Cruising Coalition, a grouping of Great Lakes ports and tourism bodies that was established to promote the Great Lakes as a cruise destination.
