Kevin Griffin founded Griffin Maritime in London in 1992 as a marine consultancy specialising in the cargo trades between Europe and the Great Lakes, and in passenger and cruise shipping. Griffin is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and a member of The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and has twenty-five years executive experience in liner and bulk shipping, marine terminal operations, inland transport and project management.  This has included positions in both Europe and North America, with the Clarke Group (including Dart Containerline and Halterm), Canadian Pacific Limited and Fednav Limited.

Griffin worked on board ships of various kinds during his university years and has lectured in marine transport management at McGill University in Montreal. Born in the UK and a dual British and Canadian national, he is a director and past chairman of the Leading Cruise Agents of the UK and has served on the agents advisory committee of the Passenger Shipping Association (Retail Agents), now Association of Cruise Experts, in London. He has also written for publications such as Seatrade, Canadian Shipping, Seaports, Freighter Travel Review and Cruise magazine.

For twelve years, Griffin Maritime acted as European representative for the Port of Toledo, Ohio, and has also done work for the Port of Detroit.  Griffin Maritime has experience in steel, lumber, zinc, aluminium, chemicals, iron and particle board, as well as project cargoes and heavy lifts, and other bulk and general cargoes.  Promoting centralized Midwest distribution by discharging cargoes for three ports at one, thus saving shipowners deviation and the cost of extra port calls, it has developed new cargoes and also participated in a number of St Lawrence Seaway missions to Europe.  Griffin Maritime also provides management services to the shipping industry.

Associate company The Cruise People Ltd is engaged in the wholesale and retail marketing of sea travel, with particular concentration on niche markets.  For ten years it served as UK representative of Marine Expeditions, operating in the Antarctic, the Canadian Arctic and other areas, and has since extended into representing destination-oriented ships in Alaska and other regions.  A member of the Leading Cruise Agents of the UK (LCA), the Association of Cruise Experts (ACE) and the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), it acts as general passenger agent for the Great Lakes service of PZM Polish Steamship Company of Szczecin, and passenger agents for CMA CGM The French Line, Marseilles, Grimaldi Lines, Naples, Hamburg-Sud, Hamburg, Reederei NSB, Bremen, Rickmers Reederei, Hamburg, and Frachtschiff-Touristik Kapitän Peter Zylmann of Maasholm.

The Cruise People Ltd is also European representative of the Great Lakes Cruising Coalition, a grouping of Great Lakes ports and tourism bodies that was established to promote the Great Lakes as a cruise destination.
