Don't Lose Your Deposit
Unlike those in many other countries, UK cruise operators have a habit of keeping your deposit if you cancel - for any reason at any time. But you can still go ahead and book a cruise without having to worry about losing your deposit. For those who wish to minimise that risk we highly recommend the following lines (do note the deadlines however):
Crystal Cruises (Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony)
Crystal Cruises will refund your deposit on 2009 cruises in full less a £50 per person administration fee up to 45 days before sailing, after which a scale of cancellation charges applies (World Cruises are not included in this scheme).
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises (Europa, Hanseatic, Bremen and Columbus)
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will refund deposits in full less a £50 per person administration fee up to 150 days before sailing, after which a scale of cancellation charges applies (100-149 days at 5%, 50-99 days at 10% etc).
Oceania Cruises (Insignia, Nautica, Regatta and the new Marina in September 2010)
Oceania Cruises will refund your deposit in full up to 91 days before sailing, after which a scale of cancellation charges applies (actual cancellation charges within 90 days depend on whether the cruise is 19 days or under or 20 days or more).
SeaDream Yacht Club (SeaDream I and SeaDream II)
SeaDream Yacht Club will allow you to cancel for any reason up to 48 hours before sailing and apply your deposit to a future sailing within 18 months of cancellation (a $50 per person fee applies for this service).
